Halloween is just around the corner, and I couldn't be more excited! This year, I finally have a house where I can fully embrace the Halloween spirit. I'm looking forward to decorating the outside, welcoming trick-or-treaters, and starting a fun neighborhood tradition called “booing.” To kickstart this tradition, I've put together some perfectly spooky DIY Halloween gift bags with adorable printables. Today, I'll be sharing these “You've been booed” free printables with you!
What's a “Boo”?
If you're wondering what all this talk about booing is, let me explain. Booing your neighbors or coworkers is a delightful tradition that started a few years ago. It's a chain reaction of spreading joy and treats during the Halloween season. One neighbor prepares small gift bags for two others, including a “you've been booed” sign with a poem or explanation of the tradition. Once those two neighbors receive their gift, they proudly display the sign to signal that they've already been booed. Then, they continue the chain and boo two more neighbors. This process repeats until everyone in the neighborhood or workplace has been booed, or Halloween arrives. It's a wonderful way to create a sense of community and excitement during this spooky season.
What's in a “Boo” Bag?
Now, there's no right or wrong way to put together a boo bag. You can keep it simple by filling a Ziploc bag with candy or go all out with indoor or outdoor Halloween decorations. Most people opt for a gift bag with some delicious treats inside. For my boo bags this year, I found adorable Halloween-themed utensils and paired them with packages of cookie mix.
Feel free to download these free designs and print them for your personal use. However, please note that they are not for commercial use or resale. These printables are my way of sharing the Halloween spirit with you all, and I want to keep them accessible and free. And remember, let's respect each other's creativity and not remove the logo overlay from the designs. Sharing this post with your friends and family would be greatly appreciated, as they can also enjoy these free printables for their own spooky projects!
“You've been booed” Free Printables
I've created three unique designs for you to choose from for your Halloween boo bags. Each design comes with both a poem and simple instructions to include in the bags. If you find the poems I wrote a bit cheesy, no worries—I totally get it! You can opt for the straightforward instructions instead.
Cutesy Printable
The first set of designs features a fun and playful style. When printing your chosen design, make sure to select landscape mode and adjust the print setting to “shrink to fit” if needed. Here's what the cutesy printable looks like with the poem:

Classic Printable
If you or your neighbor has a specific Halloween decoration theme going on, this classic style printable is perfect. It's designed to complement various home decor styles without overpowering them. Take a look:

Scary Printable
For those who love a good scare, I've created some spooky “you've been booed” printables that feature a ghost. After all, what says “boo” better than a ghost? This design blends well with various Halloween decor themes and can add a creepy touch to any home. Check it out:

Gift Tags
To complete your boo bags, I've also created printable gift tags that you can cut apart and attach to each bag. You can even include two extra tags for your neighbors to use on their bags. Here's what they look like:
How to Assemble Your Boo Bags
Now that you've chosen your favorite “you've been booed” printables, let's put the treat bags together. Follow these simple instructions:
- Print four copies of the free printables.
- Cut two copies along the dotted lines, leaving two whole copies.
- If you've chosen a printable with an oval-shaped “we've been booed” section, cut it out. You can attach a ribbon with a bow to hang the printable right away, giving it a wreath-like appearance. Feel free to get creative with ribbons and colors!
- If you have a hole punch, use it to punch a hole in the top center of the oval. Thread a ribbon through the hole and tie a knot, creating a loop large enough to hang over a doorknob. You can even add a bow for an extra touch of cuteness.
- Place treats, instructions, the cut-out “we've been booed” sign, and a copy of the “you've been booed” printable in each gift bag. For my bags, I included a package of cookie mix, an adorable spatula, and the printables.
I couldn't loop the ribbon through the lunch bag gift bags I made due to their height, but that won't stop the kids from tearing them open right away anyway!
Now, It's Time to Spread Some Halloween Joy!
I hope your neighbors and coworkers will be thrilled with their Halloween treats! As for my neighbors, my son has already started delivering our “you've been booed” bags. Have a look at him dashing away from one of the houses:
By the way, that's my son's fantastic jack-o'-lantern in the middle. It's a creative rendition of Michael Myers, and when it's dark and viewed from the right angle, it looks amazing! He's only 11, and I'm so proud of his artistic skills.
