Halloween Bingo Obsession

Bingo seems to have a special place in our hearts, especially during the holiday season. For my family, playing bingo on Christmas Eve has become a beloved tradition. But why limit the fun to just one day? I've discovered the joy of playing bingo during Halloween events such as Disney cruises, Great Wolf Lodge Howl-o-ween, and even Halloween carnivals. It's a game that brings people together and creates lasting memories.

A Game for All Ages

A few years ago, I created a monster mash Halloween bingo game that was undeniably cute. However, it was designed for younger kids with an easy-to-win format of four across. While it's perfect for little ones or class parties where you want games to move quickly, I wanted to create something that could be enjoyed by people of all ages. That's when I came up with the idea for full-size Halloween bingo cards.

Setting the Scene

To play this exciting Halloween game, you won't need many supplies. Just gather the following items:

  • Bingo cards: Download 20 unique cards at the bottom of this article. If you need even more options, additional cards are available for purchase in my shop.
  • Bingo calling sheet: The calling cards are included in the download.
  • Bingo markers: You can use regular markers, or for a Halloween twist, try using candy, erasers, or simple circles.
  • Laminating pouches (optional): If you want to preserve the cards and play with them year after year, laminate them for durability.
  • Prizes: Be prepared with small prizes for multiple winners or more impressive ones for a few lucky winners.

Let the Game Begin

Before diving into the excitement, you need to set up the game. Here's how:

  1. Print and cut out the Halloween bingo cards. For long-lasting cards, print them on white cardstock and laminate them. Alternatively, you can use dry erase markers instead of traditional ones.
  2. Print out two copies of the calling sheet. Cut out the images on one copy and leave the other intact.
  3. Distribute the bingo cards to everyone playing, making sure each person has a different card.
  4. Provide each player with at least 25 markers (more if you are using candy or other edible markers).
  5. Place the cut-out calling images in a bowl or bag alongside the full calling sheet.

Now that everything is prepared, it's time to play!

How to Play Halloween Bingo

Although most people are familiar with the rules of bingo, it's always good to include instructions just in case. Plus, I have some fun twists to share as well!

  1. Make sure everyone covers the free space on their bingo card with a marker.
  2. Start the game by pulling an image from the bag or bowl and showing it to all the players. If a player has that image on their card, they should cover it with a marker.
  3. Place the called image on the printed out calling sheet to keep track of what's been called.
  4. Continue pulling images until someone gets a bingo—five in a row vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Verify that the called images have actually been announced, and declare the winner.
  5. After a winner is declared, decide whether to remove all markers and start over or play for multiple winners.

Alternate Bingo Options

To add an extra layer of excitement, try some alternative bingo options. Before starting the game, inform the players about the specific rules for that round. Feel free to change the rules each time to keep things interesting. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Biggest Loser: The last person to put a bingo marker on the board also wins, in addition to the actual bingo winner.
  • Four corners: The first person to cover all four corners of their card wins.
  • Postage stamp: The first person to cover four images in a square formation on their card wins.
  • Cross: The first person to cover all images down the middle of the card, both horizontally and vertically, forming a cross, wins.
  • X: The first person to cover all spaces diagonally both ways, creating an X on their card, wins.
  • Top or bottom: The first person to cover either the full top or full bottom row of their card wins.

Spooktacular Prizes

The prizes for your Halloween bingo game will depend on the number of rounds you play and the number of winners. For classrooms or family gatherings with numerous winners, opt for small prizes. However, if you're hosting a fall party, Halloween carnival, or virtual event with only a few winners, consider more impressive prizes, such as gift cards and other enticing items.

Here are a few prize ideas to get you started:

  • Halloween boo bucket filled with treats and prizes
  • Creepin' it real gift basket
  • Halloween trick or treat box
  • Halloween LEGO set
  • Orange gift card
  • Halloween party snacks individually packaged with fun Halloween gift tags
