Steps to Create Your Football Field

Now that you have everything ready, let's go through the steps to create your NFL football field on the wall:

  1. Paint your wall green to serve as the base color for your field.

  1. Create your sideline: Place painter's tape three inches off the top and bottom of the wall, as well as on both sides, to create a three-inch perimeter around the green paint. Paint the 3-inch space white.

  1. Paint 10-yard and 5-yard line markers: Measure the width of your wall and divide it by 12 to determine the amount of space between each 10-yard panel. For example, if your wall is 18 feet wide, each 10-yard marker should be 1.5 feet wide. Start from the left and tape off each panel, making sure each one is equal. The two end panels will serve as your end zones.

  1. Divide each panel in 2 to create your 5-yard line markers: Mark off each 5-yard section with two pieces of tape, creating two even lines. Paint the space inside the tape white. Repeat this step for all panels except for the end zones. In total, you will have 21 white lines representing the 5-yard markers.

  1. Add 1-yard lines and hash marks: Tape off 400 small lines to represent the 100 yards on the field. Place the hash marks at the top, bottom, and middle areas. Ensure equal distance between each line. This may sound intricate, but take your time, and you'll nail it!

  1. Calculate the height of your 1-yard line hash markers: Measure the height of your field and convert it to centimeters. Multiply this by 2.85% to get the scale of a real field. These measurements will determine the length of your 1-yard line hash markers. Place the markers 35% of the way down from the top and 35% of the way up from the bottom, leaving 30% in between.

  1. Paint the lines white: Once everything is taped off, paint the lines white and let them dry. Once dry, carefully peel off the tape to reveal the crisp and clean lines.

  1. Paint the numbers: Use a stencil to divide the numbers between the 10-yard lines, painting the top set of numbers upside down. This adds a professional touch to your football field.

  1. Customize for your favorite team: Order a fathead of the team logo and your favorite player to make your football field truly special.
