Crafting Your Red Chinese Paper Lantern
Materials Required:
- Red construction paper sheets
- Yellow construction paper sheets

Step 1: Cut the Circles Out
Begin by taking the red construction paper sheets and cutting out a minimum of 24 circles. If you need more, feel free to cut additional circles. The circles should have a radius of 2.5 cm. After cutting them out, fold each circle in half along its diameter.
Step 2: Make the Paper Base of the Chinese Lantern
Now, take another red paper sheet and a yellow sheet to create the paper base for the lantern. Cut them into three rectangles: one red rectangle measuring 10 cm in length and 8 cm in breadth, and two yellow rectangles measuring 10 cm in length and 1 cm in breadth. Paste the yellow rectangles as the top and bottom borders on the red paper. Apply glue to the center portion of the paper base.
Step 3: Stick the Circles onto the Paper Base
Take the folded circles and stick each of them side-by-side on the rectangular base you just made. Start from one edge of the paper base and continue until you reach the endpoint. Apply glue on one side of a folded circle, then stick another folded circle to it. Repeat this process until all the folded circles are stuck together. To finish it off, stick the flaps of the first and last two folded circles to each other. If there is extra length on the edge, you can add more circles or tuck the excess behind the other edge.
Hanging Your Paper Lantern
To hang your paper lantern, punch two holes on the top yellow edge of the lantern. The holes should be directly opposite each other, as if they are lying on the diameter of that circle. Thread a yarn through the holes and tie its ends together. Now you're ready to celebrate Chinese New Year! Feel free to make more lanterns and hang them in different places to spread the festive spirit.
