Suncatcher craft for kids with tissue paper (free template available)

Suncatchers are a fantastic way to add a burst of vibrant color to any room. They serve as delightful visual treats, capturing the essence of creativity. Now, imagine if these suncatchers were made by the little hands of children! Their imagination and artistic flair shine through in every piece they create.

Today, we bring you a simple and enjoyable suncatcher craft idea using tissue paper. To get started, you can download the template for the suncatcher from our resource library. We've even provided a few options, such as a flower, tree, and sun. So, feel free to download and explore the endless possibilities!

Materials Required:

  • Tissue papers (assorted colors)
  • Glue or self-adhesive clear contact paper
  • Transparent sheet (non-adhesive)
  • Scissors
  • Erasable marker
  • String

Step 1: Making the Suncatcher Cutout

1a. Download and print the desired template from our free resource library. We have a beautiful selection of flower, tree, and sun templates available for you to choose from.

1b. Carefully cut out the center portion of the flower template. If you're using the tree or sun template, remove the corresponding sections. For reference, you can find the completed pictures at the end of this post.

1c-1d. Since cutting a perfect circle can be a bit tricky, we recommend cutting the center portion as two semicircles. Feel free to adjust the method according to your preference.

1e. Let your creativity bloom by coloring the flower template, making it uniquely yours.

1f. Place the transparent sheet directly under the flower template.

1g. Trace a circle along the circular center of the flower onto the transparent sheet. Use an erasable marker for easy removal later.

1h. Repeat the previous step to trace one more circle on the sheet. Remember to leave a small space outside the outline. This will allow you to attach the transparent sheet to the center of the flower template.

1i-1j. Carefully cut out the two traced circles, removing any excess material.

1k-1l. Complete the process by cutting out the flower template.

Step 2: Making the Transparent Portion of the Suncatcher

2a-2c. Cut the tissue papers into small pieces. You can use a single color or mix and match different hues for a vibrant effect.

2d. Apply glue to one side of one circular cutout.

2e. Ensure the glue is evenly spread across the surface.

2f-2g. Start placing the tissue paper pieces onto the transparent paper, filling in the border. Overlap each piece to eliminate any gaps between them. Continue until the entire surface is covered.

2h. Apply glue along the circular edge of the flower's center portion.

2i-2k. Attach the second circular cutout to the first one, effectively sealing the tissue papers between them.

2l-2n. Punch a hole in the paper and thread a piece of string through it. Make a knot at the end and hang the suncatcher in a bright window where sunlight can illuminate its beauty.

With these easy-to-follow steps, you can create stunning suncatchers that will brighten up any space. For additional guidance, we have included images of suncatchers using various templates in our resource library.
