How to make an easy paper flower for kids

Flowers have the remarkable ability to instantly brighten up any space. And the good news is, you don't always need fresh flowers to add beauty to your surroundings. Paper flowers can achieve the same effect! They can serve as home decor or provide a fun crafting activity to enjoy with kids.

In this article, we'll guide you through a step-by-step tutorial on how to create a beautiful and easy paper flower. This particular flower doesn't have an official name yet, so for now, let's refer to it as the “Random Beauty.” If it reminds you of any other flower, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

Materials Required:

  • Color paper (3 different colors). For this tutorial, we've chosen red, rose, and yellow.
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Step-by-Step Tutorial for a Simple Flower Craft

Step 1: Cut a Square Paper to Make the Flower Petals

Step 1

Start by cutting a square piece of paper measuring 15 cm (1a). Fold it in half from bottom to top, ensuring that the bottom two vertices meet the top two vertices (1b). Make a crease along the fold (1c). Now, fold it in half again from left to right and create another crease (1d).

Next, draw the shape of two petals as shown in pic 1e. Cut along the drawing lines (1f and 1g), resulting in the petal shape shown in pic 1h.

Make a tiny hole at the opposite corner of the petal shape (1i). Open up the figure to reveal one of the petal shapes (1j).

Step 2: Make the Second Petal Layer

Step 2

For the second smaller petal layer, take another color paper of your choice. Follow the same procedure as in Step 1.

To create the next petal layer, cut a square piece measuring 10 cm (2a). Repeat the folding and cutting steps shown in the pictures to achieve the desired petal shape.

Step 3: Make the Center of the Flower

Step 3

Cut a rectangular piece of colored paper measuring 10 cm x 4 cm (3a). Fold it widthwise at approximately 2-3 cm (3b). Continue folding it at the same width until you reach the size shown in pic 3c and 3d.

Fold the remaining part (3e) and use scissors to cut thin vertical lines, leaving some width at the opposite edge. This will allow you to roll the paper and create the stigma. Open the paper to reveal the pistil stigma of the paper flower (3h). Set it aside for now as we move on to creating the sepal of the flower.

Step 4: Make the Sepal of the Flower

Step 4

Hold the square paper without changing its position to ensure accurate cutting. Now, take a green colored paper and cut a square piece measuring 6 cm (4a). Fold it in half from bottom to top and create a crease. Fold it again in half from left to right to form additional creases (4c and 4d).

Fold the square piece diagonally (from the top left corner to the bottom right corner) to obtain a rectangle (4e). Maintain the triangle in the exact position as shown in pic 4f.

Next, draw an arc starting from near the middle of the horizontal edge of the triangle (slightly towards the left vertex). Cut along the arc (4g). Make a small cut at the bottom to create a hole for inserting the stem later. Be cautious about the location of the hole. The base should be the part that comes under your finger (4h).

Step 5: Make the Stem of the Paper Flower

Step 5

To create the stem, take a green paper and cut a rectangular piece measuring 10 cm x 12 cm (5a). Roll the paper diagonally as thinly as possible, applying glue at the end to secure it (5b and 5c). Trim the edge to ensure a neat end for the stem (5e).

Step 6: Put It All Together

Step 6

Now let's assemble the flower. Apply glue to the base of the pistil stigma paper piece and insert the stem. Roll it while ensuring the stem sticks to the stigma (6a). Apply glue to the center of the smaller petal layer (rose color) and insert the stem along with the stigma. Press the base of the petal layer onto the base of the stigma and the top of the stem, making sure everything sticks securely (6b).

Next, apply glue to the center of the larger petal layer (red) and repeat the same procedure as with the rose layer. Ensure it sticks well to the rose layer. Apply glue to the sepal and attach it to the base of the biggest petal layer.

Congratulations! The easy paper flower is now complete!
